In our church you can receive an indulgence.
Steps for obtaining an indulgence in the Year of St. Francis
(We can obtain the gift of an indulgence once a day for ourselves or for a soul in purgatory, fulfilling all the conditions listed below for the same day)
- A state of grace – a recent confession with forgiveness for all sins.
- Detachment from sin – absence of any attachment to sin, even if it is considered the slightest.
- Receiving Holy Communion.
- Visiting a church or chapel entrusted to the care of one of the Franciscan orders, as well as a place of worship in any part of the world dedicated to St. Francis or connected with him in some way. Staying there for a while in pious meditation and offering prayers to God—so that, following the example of St. Francis, feelings of Christian love for one’s neighbor and sincere aspirations for harmony and peace among nations may be born in the heart.
- Recite the following prayers, accompanied by the desire to pray for the intentions for which the Pope prays:
Apostles’ Creed: “I believe in God,”
Our Father,”
to the Virgin Mary (for example: “Hail Mary”),
to St. Francis of Assisi, St. Clare, and all the saints of the Franciscan family.
Saint Francis, our brother, you who eight hundred years ago went to meet Sister Death as a man at peace, intercede for us before the Lord.
You recognized true peace in the Crucifix of San Damiano, teach us to seek in Him the source of all reconciliation that breaks down every wall.
You who, unarmed, crossed the lines of war
and misunderstanding, give us the courage to build bridges where the world raises up boundaries.
In this time afflicted by conflict and division, intercede for us so that we may become peacemakers: unarmed and disarming witnesses of the peace that comes from Christ. Amen
